Coconut oil as the main ingredient. Can it be done? How to counteract the drying effect on the skin?
Hi all.
Just read a note about coconut oil striping moisture from the skin and therfore only used as a complimentary ingredient. I'd really like to make a soap using virgin coconut oil as the base (main ingredient). Is there any way I can counteract the drying effect of the coconut oil. Any help is much apprecited.

I've never heard that coconut
I've never heard that coconut oil is drying to the skin. I know people who use it for eczema. I use it on my face and body all the time. My skin loves it and it has no drying affect. You may want to check your source again as far as who advised you it would have a drying affect on the skin. best of luck. Ms. Jones
Coconut Oil drying skin
Ben I did a search and every website that came up says coconut oil is "the best" thing for dry skin. In fact all of them said to use coconut oil all by itself for moisturizing the face and body. Check out this website...http://www.coconut-connections.com/skin_care.htm
Coconut oil is best used at
Coconut oil is best used at about 15% of your soap recipe. If you want to make it 100% you can, though. Just use our lye calculator.
A really good recipe would be 15-20% coconut oil and the rest palm oil.
