Help! Soap came out very oily. Can I save it?
Hi, I'm a new soap maker. I've just made my third batch yesterday- using milk, oatmeal and honey. The milk curdled when I mixed it with the lye and turned quite brown. (I didn't freeze the milk first though) I think I might have used too much ground oatmeal (3 T. in a 1 pound batch), and 1 T. of honey. It smells like a bowl of porridge!
I oven processed it and it climbed out of the mold and spilled. This morning I cut it and it's very oily, although it doesn't look like it separated. I don't know what went wrong. I used a basic vegetable based recipe:
30% coconut oil
30% Palm oil
30% olive oil
10% caster oil
Superfat 8%
milk asa percent of oil weight 36.23%
Maybe using the milk (I decided to substitute milk for the water in the recipe at the last minute (which is why it wasn't frozen)
Any thoughts? Is there a way to save it somehow? Is 8% too high for superfat?
Thanks for your help!
