Hi, I have this old recipe I got off a soap chat around 2002. It is for 8 oz.,I would like to make a bigger batch to sell. I don't know how much persertive to use. I have Germaben 11. The recipe is
.4 oz.E-wax
2.4oz.oil ( a mixture)
8oz. glycerin
4.8 oz.distilled water
30-6 drops E.O or F.O.

Germaben II should be used at a rate of 1% of your total weight for products with 25% oil or less. Use Germaben IIe at a 1% rate for formulations with more than 25% oil. Based on your measurements above, I come up with 15.6 ounces (weight) without counting the e.o. or f.o. (I'm not sure what the "30-6 drops" means). So, you would use 1% of 15.6 (or 15.6 + whatever your fragrance weighs out to be). Hope this helps.
I know benzoin powder will
I know benzoin powder will help retain scent. I have never heard that about clay though. I am thinking that really would not work. The downside to using benzoin powder is that it makes the soap a little scratchy. It is better to use a high quality scent in the first place then you won't need to use any else to keep the scent strong.

I remember reading a while back that Kaolin Clay can be used in M&P soap when adding EO so that you can use less of the EO and that it will keep its scent longer. My question is how much Kaolin Clay needs to be added per LB of soap when using this method, and if it is true that less EO can be used then how much per LB?
