Shea Oil vs Shea Butter
Submitted by Heather on Wed, 11/05/2008 - 11:12
I recently won a prize from a soap-making company (16 oz of shea oil, which is expeller pressed and from my understanding a byproduct of making shea butter).
My question is, how different is shea oil from shea butter? I think I would like to experiment with this oil as a super-fating oil in my soap-making, or just a general oil for making scrubs. I noticed that shea oil is not on the lye calculator here and also noticed on the site it came from that the SAP value of the butter and oil differ just a bit (butter's SAP values are NaOH .131 / KOH .185 and the oil's are NaOH .129 / KOH .182).
Does anyone here have any experience working with shea oil over shea butter, and possibly any advice?
Thanks. ^^
