How to Make Melt and Pour Pouf Soaps

These are great for gentle exfoliation. There are lots of people with skin sensitivities to shower gel and so this is a way to suds up a pouf with a more gentle soap.

I have seen these done several ways. You can put them in a mold or a pvc pipe and pour soap in them. Another technique is to either dip them in M&P soap or to pour M&P soap over them. It really just depends on how much soap you want in them.

If you want a lot of soap use the mold or pvc pipe method, if you only want a small amount of soap use the dipping or pouring method.

The Mold Or PVC Pipe Method

The ideal thing here is to find a dome mold, juice can, or pvc pipe that is a bit smaller than the pouf. If you use one that is bigger than the pouf, you can make a soap that weighs way too much. The pouf can soak up A Lot of soap so stick with a smaller container.

For a dome mold, I found that one of the DOLE Fruit Bowls (the 7 oz size) containers worked really well. You can buy dome molds, but they are pretty pricey in comparison to the 79 cents I paid for the Dole Fruit Bowl.

The technique:
Melt 4-5 oz of clear or opaque soap. Fragrance as desired. Squish the pouf down into the mold/can/ pvc pipe. Make sure the carrying string is at the top. Use a knife or spoon to help hold the pouf into the mold/pvc pipe/can while you fill it with soap. Be sure to turn the mold/pvc pipe/can around while pouring so you coat the poof evenly. Some of the pouf will stick up out of the top if you are using the dome mold. That is normal.
Put the mold/pipe/can in the freezer for about an hour and then un-mold.

The Dipping And Pouring Method

This method will give you a fuller looking pouf.

Melt enough soap for the number of poufs you want to do. Each pouf will hold about 2 oz of soap with this method.

If you melt it in the microwave, use a microwave safe bowl that is about twice the diameter of the pouf. This will give you room to work. If melting on the stove use a pot that is twice the diameter of the pouf.

After it has melted, scent as desired.
If you want to dip it, take the pouf by it’s string and dip it 2 or 3 times in the soap until it is well coated.

Let the excess drain off and then place on a sheet of wax paper to dry.
If pouring, hold the pour over the bowl or pot. Use a ladle or measuring cup to pour the soap over the pouf. Turn the pouf while pouring to make sure it gets evenly coated. This usually takes 2 or 3 ladles to do this.

These pouf soaps are a great addition to a basket as well. If you use the orange color they are a nice way to round off a citrus themed basket.
